FEAR OF REJECTION: THE TRUTH BEHIND THIS HIDDEN INSECURITY

Everyone will experience fear of rejection at some point in their life. You may decide not to ask someone you’ve shown interest in out on a date because you are afraid they will say no. Or you decide not to apply for that particular job because you think the company will choose a more qualified candidate over you. 


All our fears are based on our limiting beliefs; the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and what we’re capable of. These beliefs are often formed in childhood. They can be part of psychological effects if rejected by a father or mother. These belief systems formed during childhood will hold us back even when we become adults and for the rest of our natural born lives if we don’t break free from the illusion of them. 


If you were put down or abandoned by the people whose love you felt you needed most or you were bullied and criticized, you will likely develop limiting beliefs that cause this feeling of fear of rejection. The fear of rejection is very real, and so are the opportunities we miss out on because of it. 


Fear Of Rejection Can Hold You Back

Fear of rejection has its consequences. It is an obstacle between an individual and success. Here are some signs that indicate you fear rejection.

  • You Are a People-Pleaser: We may always want to take care of the people that we love, but people who fear rejection usually go too far to please others. You may find it impossible to say no even though you know that saying yes can cause major inconveniences.
  • You Avoid New Opportunities: We are hard-wired to run away from the things that make us feel afraid. Fear is meant to protect us from danger. So while running away at the sight of a dangerous animal makes sense, refusing to ask for what you deserve because you fear rejection makes no sense at all. 
  • You Don’t Speak Up: Refusing to express your opinion or stand up for yourself is the same thing as poor communication. You won’t simply be handed what you want in life. You have to ask for it. The right thing will always find you. However, there are times that require you to have to fight for what you want. Always take the chance.

Instead of dwelling on the past and asking questions like why does my mother put me down, forget it and stand up for yourself and what you want and demand the respect you know you deserve or remove yourself from the equation altogether. As far as those opportunities that can advance you career wise, take them. Keep going until you get what you want. Know that whatever rejections you go through or have gone through aren’t meant to deter you. They are meant to make you stronger so that you can persevere and strive beyond your self imposed limitations. Once you’ve achieved your goal, those so-called rejections won’t even matter. 


If you realize that fear of rejection is limiting your life, start connecting with your higher self through meditation, and use journaling to help heal those childhood wounds that still continue to reflect itself into your reality. Words of affirmations and subliminal meditations are a great way to begin reprogramming your subconscious mind into believing whatever you want it to. If you find that you need more help diving into and healing those inner child wounds you may also have to speak to a psychotherapist.
